Her recent projects have primarily included landscape and botanical studies.
Her intention with her recent work is to bring the viewer’s attention
to nature, from the expanse of shadowed trees in a wooded landscape to
the detail of a single branch. The segments of her fragmented landscape
assemblage pieces take the viewer directly into small sections of landscapes
for a unique experience that would be overlooked in the larger painting.
Her bold use of color and subtle light and shadow are evident throughout
her body of work.
Artist’s Statement
My intention is to show the viewer a way to really see, to change his/her
perspective and look at things in a different way then is typical and
expected. I have always been interested in the visual nuances of life,
the close-up views that are ordinarily passed by, the intricate shadows
and the way light effects the color of things. I'm intrigued by the life
of color as it changes throughout the day and how it reacts to the other
colors nearby. I'd like to invite the viewer to see what color can do
as it interacts with light and shadow and how it vibrates when placed
next to it's color compliment. In my work I have paid attention to the
potential of colors in landscapes and even exaggerated them to visually
make my statement. I’d like to do the same with light and shadow,
most of us don’t notice the beauty created by the simplicity of
light hitting an object.
