Artist's Statement

For as long as I can remember, I have been impelled to draw, paint and create. When I am absorbed in expressing my feelings about a landscape, still life or in capturing a likeness of a person, I am most myself. Achieving the atmosphere and/or mood of the subject in my work enables me to be whole and complete. As an art teacher, I tried to draw out that unique personal response from each student so that the process of creating left them with some sense of fulfillment.

I have enjoyed working in a variety of media—presently my focus is on pastel and oil. There are those who I have looked to for inspiration, namely, Elizabeth Mowry, Christina Debarry, Kevin McPherson, Daniel Greene, Sorolla and Monet. It has been an interesting journey in attempting to incorporate in my work some of the artistry that I have learned from them. I do say “journey” because the process of my art is still evolving.
