| Year's End The year is coming to a close and it is time to do something radical. Selecting a painted canvas, I look at it for a while. I lay it on the floor, sand it down a bit, then go at it with washes, scraping, pouring, dripping, and plastering it with impasto. Then scrape it down and do it all again. There is a brave exhilaration that comes with applying new paint over old layers as bits of color and fleeting lght from the under layers appear here and there. Paring down and building up. The application is energetic with frantic bursts of radiant color often squeezed onto the canvas directly from the tube. It has taken on a new life that strangely looks a bit heartbreaking and so it receives its name: "Years End", which describes this impression. On the wall it is big and peaceful and comforting - deep expression of something uplifting. Another year rolls towards its end. Andrea Kelly - December 2008
